The Goring
If it was good enough for Catherine the Princess of Wales the night before her wedding to William…..
The Royal Choice
I had to start with the fact that Catherine chose to stay at The Goring the night before her wedding to William as this fact is so closely linked to The Goring. But The Goring is much more than this. If a classic English country garden was a five-star luxury hotel in London this would be it. Quintessentially English in all the good ways, this family run hotel is one of the most delightful five star hotels in London in my opinion.
What Makes The Goring unique?
- This is where the former Kate Middleton stayed the night before her wedding to the future King of England
- She stayed in The Royal Suite and you can stay there too
- London’s last family owned luxury hotel, The Goring has been operating for 113 years
- Many historical events have taken place at The Goring over that time (it is the closest hotel to Buckingham Palace as you may have guessed) from acting as the base for the Polish Army during World War 2 to hosting meetings for Winston Churchill and much more
- It is the only hotel in London to have a Royal Warrant for hospitality services
- A famed afternoon tea and I really love The Goring Cocktail Bar – decadent but comfortable
- Beautiful hidden garden
- The sheep (not a typo – wooden sheep with sheepskin fur are dotted throughout the hotel) and Teddy the Shetland Pony (he is real) is a regular visitor
- Located on a quiet mews street The Goring is quite the peaceful oasis in the heart of London
- Rumour has it the butlers at The Goring were trained at Buckingham Palace
Key things to know
- There is a small fitness room but that is it in terms of wellness facilities eg no spa or pool. If you are after a large gym/pool set up I suggest you look elsewhere. But don’t forget The Goring is very close to Green Park so it is a good hotel for runners
- The Dining Room is the main restaurant and it has a Michelin star.
- 69 Rooms and Suites
