Belgravia
If you’re seeking a quiet, affluent London neighbourhood with some of the city’s most affluent shopping this is for you.
Belgravia is one of London’s most exclusive and affluent neighborhoods, known for its grand Georgian and Regency architecture, tranquil garden squares, and a serene, village-like atmosphere.
The neighborhood was developed in the early 19th century by Richard Grosvenor, the 2nd Marquess of Westminster, and much of the area is still owned by the Grosvenor Estate. Its streets are lined with elegant white stucco terraces, high-end boutiques, and embassies, reflecting its reputation as a haven for the wealthy and influential.
It is also home to more five star hotels than any other London neighborhood apart from Mayfair.
Five-star hotels in Belgravia
My Recommendation
The Goring
I had to start with the fact that Catherine chose to stay at The Goring the night before her wedding to William as this fact is so closely linked to The Goring. But The Goring is much more than this. If a classic English country garden was a five-star luxury hotel in London this would be it. Quintessentially English in all the good ways, this family run hotel is one of the most delightful five star hotels in London in my opinion.
The Peninsula
It took seven years to build The Peninsula in London after the group spent 35 years finding the perfect location. This is at the top end of London five star hotel decadence with the prices to match.
The Cadogan
The second British property from Belmond, this hotel delivers on the Orient Express-style indulgence for which the brand is famed. At just 54 rooms, the Cadogan manages to deliver five star in a personalised, boutique manner.
Taj 51 Buckingham Gate
You’ll feel like you’ve wandered into another world when you enter the beautiful courtyard/garden at the entrance to Taj 51. Get ready for opulence with an Indian feel and staff who come with rave reviews.
COMO The Halkin
The COMO hotels are famous for their stylish and holistic approach to hospitality, and this boutique-sized property in London is no exception. The design is contemporary, comfortable and warm. It is light on many of the features of other London five star hotels particularly on the food and beverage front. But it you’re after a discreet, stylish and simple stay in London this is the hotel for you.
Top Attractions in Belgravia
Belgravia is all about Georgian architecture and charming streets so you won’t find any of London’s top tourist attractions in this neighborhood. But you will find some of city’s most high end shopping including Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
Cadogan Hall
Spectacular concert venue in a former church, it is the home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a venue for many well-known artists.
Harrods and Harvey Nichols
Two of London’s most famous department stores, Harrods is the place for classic London souvenirs, and both are great spots for high-end fashion.
Sloane Square
Home to the outstanding Royal Court Theatre, Peter Jones department store and a beautiful fountain.
Eccleston Yards
A former disused courtyard, this relatively new area is filled with artisanal shops, cafes, restaurants and regular pop up events.
Sloane Street
This elegant street is home to a who’s who of top retailers including Gucci, Valentino, and Giorgio Armani.
Pimlico Road Farmers Market
Located in Orange Square on Ebury Street, this bustling Farmer’s Market is open on Saturdays from 9am-2pm.
Recommended Restaurants in Belgravia
La Poule au Pot
This classic French restaurant is a local institution. Its charming interior is perfect for romance and Instagram.
Daylesford Organic
This farm shop and deli is part of the legendary Cotswolds Daylesford Organic. The cafe closes at 6 so this is a great choice for brunch/lunch.
Petrus by Gordon Ramsay
Fine dining at one of Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin-starred restaurants. Named after the famous Pomerol wine estate in Bordeaux.
Recommended Pubs in Belgravia
The Wilton Arms
Classic Victorian family run pub on a quiet street in Belgravia.
The Thomas Cubitt
Set in a charming Victorian building, this cosy pub has a great reputation for upscale pub meals.
The Grenadier
If you like a quirky pub then this tiny former officer’s mess is for you. The decor is all things grenadier and there is a pewter bar.
